"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
- Mahatma Gandhi

As we strive to embody the Gandhian philosophy in higher education, our university seeks to serve the local community’s needs. Currently, our academic departments include Bengali, English, History, and Mathematics and we recognize its vast potential to grow and expand.
As a nascent university situated in a locality steeped in the history of nationalist freedom movement, we draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to this place. Our vision is to grow gradually, to become a centre of excellence with a steadfast commitment.
To cater to the local demands, we propose introducing job-oriented courses in tourism, leveraging the proximity to popular destinations like Digha, Mandarmani and many others in nearby destinations. This initiative will not only boost local employment opportunities but also showcase the region’s cultural heritage. Furthermore, we are planning to start cutting-edge courses in engineering and science, focusing on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Structure and Science (DSS), Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine Learning (ML). These courses will equip our students with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

To achieve our desired goals, we propose the following strategic initiatives:

  • Infrastructure Development: To upgrade our infrastructure for supporting the growth of new academic programs and research initiatives
  • Expansion of Academic Programs: To introduce new courses in tourism, engineering, and science, with a focus on emerging areas of study
  • Industry Partnerships: To collaborate with industries and organizations for providing students with hands-on training, internships, and job opportunities; to develop organized partnership with local agencies engaged in cashew and coconut farming, floriculture and pisciculture
  • Faculty Development: To provide training and development opportunities for faculty members and to ensure updated teaching-learning scenario
  • Cultural Legacy: To preserve the historical and cultural legacy of the district of Purba Medinipur by promoting research and establishment of archives and museums

By implementing these initiatives, we are confident that Mahatma Gandhi University will emerge as a leading institution of higher learning, rooted in the Gandhian philosophy and committed to serving the local community, the country and the world as a whole.
